i’m based in san pedro, a sleepy neighborhood in los angeles. it's a down-to-earth neighborhood, still a bit rough around the edges, but even here, gentrification is making its way in. I do enjoy this moment here. the neighborhood is full of artists, and being part of this community feels inspiring. san pedro is not the hip part of LA, but a neighborhood with few distractions, where serious work gets done, and where new ideas develop. i feel i can just go about my life and create here.

i prefer to paint with natural light ,and my studio gets great morning light through its cracked skylights. i get most of my work in the studio done in the mornings. by midday, i usually move on to other things.

in my current work, i build my paintings up one layer at a time. i always start with yellow, other than that, there are no set rules. i let the mood dictate where the work should go, often letting it develop freely. after each layer, i step back, sit, and watch. a big part of my work is to wait, watch and to see. during that time, whatever occupies my mind,  starts to interact with the work. it then reflects in what in my next gestures on the panel.

my works are moments in time. what you see is where they are right now. each completed layer might be the last one, and the painting could be finished. indeed,  it is finished for a certain amount of time, only to change again, and again. just as our cities, architecture, our habits, our politics, and beliefs change.
